Exhibition Opening at LANGER. Space for Photography

17 February 2024

Opening: 17.2., 19:00 // with Live Music by Lua42dj // drinks & snacks

Albania is a country in transformation. In the field of tension between old structures and new opportunities, the country is trying to reinvent itself. As in every transition, there are conflicts over status, resources, and power. The system celebrates winners and neglects those left behind.

Elisa Berdica regularly returns to her home country to capture specific social challenges that the country is facing in recent years. The RURALB project focuses on rural life, mostly in the northern mountains and the southern coast. As modernization and urbanization progresses rapidly, rural communities are faced with issues as the rapid growth of mass tourism, the exodus of the younger generation, social rejection, and poverty. Concurrently, the project seeks to highlight and contribute to the preservation of Albanian culture and traditions.

Mannheimer Morgen Article about LANGER

29 July 2023

A nice article in Mannheimer Morgen about us and the current exhibition in LANGER!

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MEMORY. RECOLLECTING MY FATHER by Anne Ackermann

"Wondrous, even enigmatic pictures hang in the window and on the walls of the new LANGER exhibition space in Neckarstadt. Strongly colored and not clearly identifiable. What is the little boy doing with the purple flower, is he eating it? And the red berries all around, do they promise danger?

Anne Ackermann, the photographer, will tell us about her photographs on display in a moment, but first let's talk to the new owners of the Langstrasse exhibition space that opened last year. [...]

Elisa Berdica and Arthur Bauer are themselves photographers. They initially exhibited their own documentary photographs at LANGER. Both want an open concept for the space - always photography, but also interdisciplinary. [...]

Anne Ackermann was invited for the first solo exhibition at LANGER. She explains the project: "Two or three years ago I knew I had to do it. It had to come out, I wanted to tell the story. [...] It's the first time that I've exhibited photographs with text and film. There's also something cinematic about it, a story told visually through time." Beautiful exhibition by a very humble artist!"

The exhibition: Discover fresh art? Get to know local artists?

Art and culture have had a tough time lately. That's why we've made it our mission to support artists from Neckarstadt-West and the surrounding area. From April 21st there is now the opportunity to marvel at and bid on selected works of art. All earnings go to the artists!

The auction: The artworks will be presented in the CACM from April 21st. Interested parties have the opportunity to bid on the works here. A bid is made by means of a piece of paper that is pinned next to the work. In order to outbid, the original bid is “taped over”. This is possible until the end of the exhibition on May 20th. The highest bid wins.

Vernissage OSTOST

25 May 2022

ÖVA Passage // Mannheim

The photo exhibition OSTOST shows five photographic positions, five places with their very own questions about the future and identity: we look at the legacy of the Yugoslav war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, observe a society in Irkutsk that is being atomized and finally end up in Astana in the midst of utopias that have become concrete. The series about the blazing present in Ukraine formulates a special topicality and urgency, which finds an immediate echo in Warsaw.

The common breeding ground of the series shown is the collapse of the Soviet Union, almost as hour zero. Forces of dissolution and new beginnings shook the coordinate system of the world. New states formed, others passed away, borders were called into question. Dynamics whose effects are seismically noticeable to this day in the order of Eurasia.

The photographic works - each one highlighting a post-Soviet place - complement each other to form a mosaic that tries to trace an unpredictable world and its interactions.

Artists: Arthur Bauer // Elisa Berdica // Christian Kleiner // Sofia Samoylova // Miriam Stanke

Opening LANGER.

Space for Photography

07 October 2022

Mannheim

In August 2022, together with Arthur Bauer we rented an old vintage shop and turned it into a space for photography. After all the renovation work, the new photo atelier, named LANGER has opened its doors to the public, providing a space for photography enthusiasts to gather. LANGER is a hub for photography-related events, from exhibitions and workshops to portfolio reviews and artist talks.

LANGER features a gallery space where we will be hosting rotating exhibitions featuring the work of local and international photographers. It provides a platform for emerging talents to gain exposure but also for well established artists to showcase their work.
