RUR-ALB

A journey into rural Albania • Ongoing

The need to return to my roots regularly takes me to Albania to capture specific social challenges that the country is facing. The RURALB project, which I started in 2020 in the region of Theth and continued throughout Albania, focuses on the rural life of the country.

As the world becomes increasingly urbanized, I believe it is important to document the authenticity of remote areas and its’ inhabitants. This is particularly true for Albania, a country that has experienced significant social and economic upheaval in recent years.

My aim with this series is to raise awareness of the problems that people who live in rural areas face. These include poverty, rapidly growing mass tourism and a lack of subsidies for agriculture. At the same time, the project contributes in the preservation of the Albanian traditional culture, before it may be absorbed by modern life.
